After an aborted attempt earlier in the year, we hit the road for our first 2007 outing at the end of April.
The convoluted travel arrangements for this leg involved driving up the M1/M18 as far as Selby, then leaving the car and catching a local train across to Hull, where our previous leg had ended.
And that was only half the story – we had given ourselves seven days to complete the long journey up to Newcastle before continuing by train to Edinburgh where we were to meet Sonia and Clare (our respective other halves) and Michelle (Steve's sister) for a weekend city break in Edinburgh.
Fortunately the April showers had abated and we were looking at some fairly decent weather for the next few days, although we were almost thwarted from the outset when the train from Selby tried to close its doors before we'd had chance to get our bikes on board – after a brief struggle though we were safely on board, gliding effortlessly past Drax power station and the Humber estuary as we made our way swiftly Hull-wards.
