Autumn was advancing, but (more by luck than judgement) the weather was still mild and dry as we packed in our third and final outing of 2005.

After a London lunchtime meet-up and a swift pint each in the Sherlock Holmes, Steve and I headed across the road to Charing Cross station and installed ourselves, our bikes, and a few tinnies onto a deserted train bound for the coast, amid a palpable sense of excitement now that our burgeoning round-the-coast trip was really starting to take shape. For on this leg we would tick off our first real milestone – making the turning from the south to the long east coast.
